The reissue of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 on Deutsche Grammophon’s Original Source series is a miracle to behold. Recorded for quadrophonic sound in 1973 and mixed directly to lacquer at Emil Berliner studios (mixed by Rainier Maillard and cut by Sidney Meyer), this AAA recording is not to be missed.

This record was made so long ago that one of our dad’s actually booked Dave Brubeck to play a concert at the student union. When this record came out it was a hit — Take Five is the highest-selling jazz single of all time — and 65 years later it’s easy to understand why. Produced by Teo Macero and released December 14, 1959 on Columbia Records.
